I would suggest an Evolution-7 for passives or EMG 707/81-7's if you want to go the active route. Dimarzios are very well-suited for basswood-bodied guitars (they seem to have that perfect upper-midrange response that cuts through the mix no matter what wood is used) and I like the evo-7 a bit more than blazes. EMGs tonally behave a bit differently, but they'll give you superior note definition, if sometimes at the expense of tonal complexity (I just turn up the midrange and everything's kosher).

I think Devin Townsend (SYL) plays/had played 7 strings in Drop G before. I wouldn't even attempt it without a 27" or higher scale though.

Re: The Battle of teh Muddyness!

well, what if my playing style is more like deftones/korn and i want full tone, and i do alot of palm muting... tuning as low as i do, and looking away from complex solos and stuff. i only do simple soloing... and not very often...

my choises for the bridge pickup as it stands are (as i mentioned in another thread) between these DiMarzios:

the D Activator 7 Bridge

the Blaze Neck

the Blaze Custom

the D Sonic 7

thing is though, the store i´m buying from might not be able to get the d activator or the d sonic... so i´m most likely going to get some sort of blaze (i can´t buy from other places, my money is in an unexchangeable gift certificate)

Re: The Battle of teh Muddyness!

for extended lows, sometimes it's not the pickup that's muddying out, but the speakers...
