best pickup arrangements

Hey Guys
What would be the 3 best pickup arrangements for 1. Jazz and 2. Metal

- Bridge parallel
- Bridge series
- Bridge single coil
- bridge/neck single coils
- Bridge/ neck parallel
- Bridge/neck series
- Neck series
- Neck Parallel
- Neck single coil

For Jazz I like-
1.Neck and Bridge Humbuckers together Normal
2.Neck in Parallel
3.Neck Normal

For Metal-
1.Bridge Humbucker Only Normal
2.Neck in Parallel
3.Neck Normal

or you could be "progressive" and do what Tosin Abasi does with his pups:

Link the outside coil of the humbucker in the neck with the outside coil of the bridge Humbucker. If you've seen video of Tosin Abasi's signature he shows off the pups, sounds REALLY interesting.

I don't like coil splits. I think parallel wiring is essentially "Coil splits, but usable", because they don't drop off in volume.

That said, if you want a 3 position guitar to cover all bases, I think you want:

1 - Bridge Series
2 - Neck Parallel
3 - Neck Series
