blocking s1 single coil on rg 1570

I've got an rg 1570 and the middle single coil tends to screw up my picking. Therefore i'd like to block it and put it as low as possible.

But how should i wire the humbuckers to get descent sounds from all the switches on the pickup selector?

I believe that if you want other (more) pickup combinations it would be best to get a megaswitch or something like that. The standard switch is wired specifically for the HSH configuration.

No, I'd like to plug out the single coil to "turn it off" and rewire so im only using the humbuckers.
Do you know how to do that?

You can still use the same 5 way switch and the rewiring should be easy to do if you know what you are doing.
Click here to see how to rewire the guitar with your existing 5 way switch.

This is what you have now so you can compare.

2 hum switch

I believe this is a special 2-humbucker switch from Ibanez, which is different than a standard 5-way. A normal 5-way would not allow both humbuckers to be on at the same time according to the wiring diagram.

Is it the fact that the pup is there at all, or are you hanging up on the polepieces? If the latter, you could mod the pup so it's "flat across" and doesn't catch your pick.

Yes that's right. As far as the pickup getting in the way, I mentioned once before that the Dimarzio fast track does an excellent job staying out of the way of the pick, and it sounds just dandy. Even if you hit the pickup you just glide right on through. If you don't want to lose the stratty in-between sounds you could put that in, because you'll only get "close to" stratty sounds with split/parallel humbucker combinations. Sonic and dynamic characters are mostly about the coil's location.

As bachle7 mentioned, you can't wire it like that, it won't work.

You have a standard 5-way in your 570, the 520 (I have one) has a "special" 5-way that is designed to allow those combinations.

You can get a switch that will work the same way from stewmac, there are two that are made for splitting 2 humbuckers, and they have one that allows for just about any combination of settings, but you really have to know what you're doing with that one. :-)
