Dark sounding single coils to recommend?

Hi,

I'm trying to find dark sounding single coils for my guitar -- not a stack/bucker in single size nor an overwound single (such as the Lace Sensor Blue), but a real single coil, same power as a single coil, but dark sounding.

Does such a thing exist?

Guitar is a SSS Fender Japan, alder body + rosewood fingerboard. I'd like to smoothen the sound for Jazz/Fusion playing. Nothing snappy or glassy sounding. Round and warm.

I tryed to play with EQ settings but it still either too snappy, or gets too muddy.
I first thought about the DiMarzio Virtual Vintage Blues DP402 but it seems to be trebly and a tad too powerful.

Any suggestion is welcome.

Re: Dark sounding single coils to recommend?

Maybe a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound that has the coil tap option. At full power the Quarter Pound is quite high output, but the tap drops it closer to a traditional single coil output.
