DiMarzio Dominion bridge - WOW!
So DiMarzio sent me a Dominion set to review recently. I finally finished my MIJ RG 450 project, and installed the Dominions into it. The RG is a basswood, maple neck, rosewood fretboard, Edge Pro, H-H 5 way switch and single volume knob.
Now I don't play much stuff like Lamb of God, but I tell you what, fOr the stuff I play, and in this guitar the bridge pickup just slayed! I've got something wrong with my neck pickup wiring, but I tell you it sounds awesome in a split single, and parallel mode. Beautiful, Strat sounding, very convincing.
Anyway, the Dominion bridge. Quick review. It's kinda like a perfect Tone Zone for basswood. Big bass, but not muddy in the slightest, like a TZ can get in basswood. Great cutting mids, and nice highs that don't get too ice-pick-y. Attack is very immediate like you'd expect with a ceramic magnet. Cleans up nicely since the resistance isn't too high, but still plenty of grunt. It's great with heavy chunky stuff, leads sound great, and harmonics just pop out. Sounds better clean than a TZ too.
It sounds great split with the Dominion neck too, very Strat like, gorgeous clean tones.
I absolutely love the Tone Zone in alder, it's heavy and fat, and harmonics pop out, but not muddy like I found it in basswood. The Dominion is perfect for basswood as its a little sharper than the Tone Zone.
Ill have a fuller review soon, but I just wanted to make a few notes on it after playing them at rehearsal for the first time. I can't wait to get the neck sorted, do far it's impressed me.
