Dimarzio Gravity Storm, your impressions nowadays?

Hello fellow Jemsters,

The Dimarzio Gravity Storms pickups has been out for almost 8 months, so I guess the honeymoon-time has passed

I'm really interested in how you like these pickups now.

Do you still have them in your Jem's, RG's or other guitars?
If not, what is the reason for removing them?
Do you prefer them to higain or mediumgain or "cleanchannel" music?

How is it to use them for your style of music, such as when it comes to recording and playing live?

From the soundclips I hear on the web, these Dimarzio Gravity Storm's sounds really good. I'm thinking of maybe putting them into either my Jem V7WHL (that is tuned in D) or my Rg1570L (that will be tuned to E), but not sure how it will work tone/soundwise.
So this is the reason why I'm interested how these pickups works for you

Best DiMarzio pickup I've ever used. (I have an Ormsby Nunchucker that I like more)

I have a set in my RG550. They're so good I got a set for my USA custom too.

I'm glad you dig both the Gravity Storms and the Nunchucker. I hope the Hot Rock serves you well too.

Hello freewheeler.
I just bought the bridge version for a project on a 1996 MIJ Jackson ps-2 performer. I basically looked at the eq values and output level on the dimarzio site before deciding to try it. I was thinking of trying the lukather transition pup but it was lacking in lower end value. I Like this pickup, its very ballsie with a high gain rock sound. Heres a link to the sound im getting out of it. Maybe this will give you another sound check before deciding to buy it or not.
Take it easy.

I like it, it is a cool and different (has a "another" sound than the rest out there) pickup.
Almost a quality like a wah pedal stopped in the middle, very cool for lead sounds.

But it is notting I will continue using (never really did us it, soldered it in in a couple of different guitars and did a couple of shows with it and took it out again) was a bit to dark/closed for my personal taste.

Re: Dimarzio Gravity Storm, your impressions nowadays?

I have a set in one of my guitars. I like it a lot. Its hot enough for anything and not too smooth. They split very well too and the neck pickup is very awesome. The bridge pickup kinda reminds me of a duncan distortion. It has a little bit of a top end fizzle that I hear in all duncan pickups. But they next guitar I get, I will be putting the gravity storms in it.

Ryc, how would you compare it to an F2 or a FRED?

What's the bridge pickup in your Screaming Eagle?

I"m considering putting one of these in the bridge position of my Floral Jem since to try something different from the PAF Pro.

It is very far from a Fred (or a paf pro).
Completely different EQ, much thicker, a lot less open in the high end.
A bit less dynamic.

More things are different than similarities.

Interesting that it is similar to the Duncan distortion, which is my fav bridge pickup. I'm getting a used rg920m and was looking for a dimarzio similar to the Duncan distortion (don't feel like trimming baseplate tab to make it fit). Might try a gravity storm set in it!
