Dimarzio question(s)

I'm looking for opinions on the Dimarzio DP420... I have a 404 in there now and I really dig it but I keep reading the 420 is totally an upgrade. Anyone have hands on experience comparing the two? Also, thinkin about the Area '61 for the neck as the pickup in there now is kinda lifeless. Looking for spanky hard rock tones...

Re: Dimarzio question(s)

Do you want single coil sound or a humbucker sound?

Re: Dimarzio question(s)

DP420,from what I know about pickups and from what Dimarzio's site says, it won't sound like a single coil, more like a humbucker.
The higher the output of a single coil, the less likely it will sound like a single coil.
The VVHB2 (DP409) and the Injector pickups (DP422 & DP423) are getting to the top of the scale, any hotter and your starting to sound like a humbucker.
I'd like to put two Injector neck pickups and an Injector bridge in a guitar for a hot strat tone.
I have the VVHB2 (DP409) , it is a dual coil pickup / humbucker, and it is very close to the sound of a true single coil. Listening to Gilbert's tone, I think the Injectors have that strat sound I love in a single coil. My favorite hot single coil thus far is the Fender Texas Special. I have them in the middle of a lot of my H-S-H guitars and a full set in one of my RG550s. I get that hot SRV tone all day long, Love it!
