EMG 3 way switch wiring - HELP!!

I have the solderless 81/85 and 3 way switch the same as this..

2 and 3, 4 and 5, 6 and 7 are all joined, 1 and 8 independant. I have the same pickups and switch on my other guitar and the neck goes to 2/3, output 4/5, bridge 6/7. 1 and 8 are empty. But they arent the solderless versions.

I have tried copying this set up but it doesn't seem to work. Should it? The instruction shows the following switch, with all 8 pads separate. Do I need one like that or should mine work?

You might need the other switch.
While similar--the lugs may be allocated differently.

I thought as much, and have ordered the other style but it wont be here until next week.

Is there not another way to wire it though? Surely the switch does the same thing, the lugs may be different, but it ultimately does the same surely? Just different wiring?

I looked for a diagram for the switch I have but couldn't find anything.

All sorted now though.. I was using a brand new battery out the pack and turns out it was dead... Haha

Lol--yes, sometimes we look too deep into troubleshooting. Seems the obvious sometimes gets forgotten. ..had that happen before.

haha it didn't even cross my mind that the battery could be the issue as it was brand new, wrapped in cellophane! I wasted 2 days!!!! I was certain it was the switch!! haha

Re: EMG 3 way switch wiring - HELP!!

When I installed EMG's in an RG 7 I had problems with the switch too. My solution? I found one of the EMG solderless selector switches. It takes the place of the buss controller that is normally used but it also requires a 9 volt battery.

Yeh I did look at that but refused to pay 30 or whatever it is for a switch when you can buy a normal one for 5!! Haha
