EMG's battery in RG550

Hi,

Does anybody own a RG550, fitted with EMG's ???

Where have you placed the battery ? Should I create a new cavity to place it ???

I'm waiting your answer to click on the "validate order" button !!!

Thanks for your answer.

For information, my RG has a pickguard (no access to the pots on the back of the body)

I used to have EMGs in my Rg550L. I always had the battery in wrapped in plasticfoam between the Volymepot and Tonepot under the pickguard.

theres lots of room, your biggest problem will be changing batteries. This is how I have avoided the problem.

I bought a super expensive lithium battery (cant remember the price but it was about $20 for 1) and wired the battery to the selector switch first so the battery is only powering 1 pickup at a time. So far I've milked about 3 years out of this battery (with mid to heavy use) and I think I have a lot more time left. When you do have to change batterys pop the trem with the strings still on, its much quicker.

recently Ive been playing with the idea of routering some room for a better next to the trem springs under the same back plate.

I too have taken to litium batteries for guitars with EMGs because they last for freaking EVER. The BEST place to get them cheap is at a good ol' Fred Meyers or somewhere similar. Go to the aisle where they sell smoke-alarms, and they have a big tray of lithium 9v batteries to put in your smoke alarm. I have bought a few and they were only like $7( which seems to be really cheap??).

Ok thank you for your answer... It's really cool to don't have to drill in the body...

For those whom have already fitted EMG in their 550, May I use the original Ibanez 5 ways Switch, or should I buy a 5 five wsw strat-like one ???

What did you suggest for Pups combination with 81 on neck and bridge, and EMG SA in the middle:
-5 ways sw: Neck - neck+middle - Middle - Middle+bridge - bridge
-3 ways sw: Neck - middle - bridge

In case of a 5 ways combination, I don't know how that will sound on position 2 & 4 (81+SA), as the 81 is not tappable...

EMG's aren't tappable (save the 89) so you what you mentioned is pretty much your only option. The good news is you don't need a super hi tech five way (multi-pole).

I have a multi-pole in my EMG guitar and I only really use the neck and bridge, so Its kind of over kill. I have a simpler switch, but I never got around to changing it.
