Evo and pots

I have a 92 rg770 and back in the day about 96 or so had a Evo put into the bridge. Now after some reading should I have a bigger vol or tone pot to optimize the pup or is it not high output enough? Seems like I could get a bit more ommph outta it.....

Re: Evo and pots

A higher value pot will not increase the output. Generally humbuckers use 500k volume pots, a bigger pot will just make the pickup sound brighter.

Re: Evo and pots

It will infact have MORE output if you switch from a 500K to a 1MEG pot or a 250K to a 500K,but not enough to be anywhere near the realm of "OMG dude my pickup is so much LOUDER now" and it does increase the treble and mid freqs with each step up.

Re: Evo and pots

yeah its not just brighter at all, it is WAY MORE OUTPUT just based on how the conductors are insulated and how many there are. also it alows more signla to not get lost

essentially it allows more output to come through making your bass responce soo much better and the reason why you hear it getting brighter is becasue the bass responce is soo much higher it carries more highs with it

secondly if you had a

evo with 500k volume and 500k tone with a .022 cap

then replaced it with a

evo with 1 meg volume and 500k tone with a .044 cap it will sound exactly the same as the example above with WITH WAY MORE UMPH

idealy you want to have a 1 meg volume with a 500k tone with a .022 and you can roll off the highs just as well

here s website this guy is amazing smart with guitars

dont be fooled, ive swapped out in a jackson hardtail over 10 different pot and wiring variations and several pups when i was all into it, and theres a direct bennefit from it

when i had 500k v and 500k t i would ave my trim on my artist at like over half way

and when i put 1 meg v and 500k tone i had to have it less than 1/3

the trim pot does not lie, nor the clipping light!

Let me know how the 1meg pot sounds, I'm interested in if it will be to shrill.

Re: Evo and pots

The Evo with a 500K pot is like a fine chefs knife; it slices thru the mix unimpeaded. I can't imagine it with a 1meg though.

Re: Evo and pots

yeah, i wouldn't want the evo with more cut. it is bright as hell to begin with. a 1 meg would make it unbearable. 500k is perfect for the evo.
