evolution 2 pickups

When did these start coming in the white Jem? I have a '10 and the Duncan screaming demon albeit in a different guitar is just louder sounding and more aggressive. Anyone else not so impressed with the evolutions? (No, I don't work for SD)

Re: evolution 2 pickups

I never liked the original evo's. They had a very peaky dry sound to me. I much prefer the dimarzio crunch lab.

Re: evolution 2 pickups

I have EVO & EVO2, the EVO2 is much better.
The original EVO is very load with high output and very bright.
The EVO2 has a better output level and it is a lot warmer.

I love the 158 in the neck. It's very compressed but strings vibrate a lot more there.

As for the 159 in the bridge, it confines every note as if you were wearing a leather jacket while playing. My JC has an Evo 2 and I couldn't be happier. It's my favourite bridge pickup.

How are they told apart? Do they look identical? I have a brand new 2010 Jem. Thanks.

One has "215" engraved on the baseplate, the other has "159" and that's it!

They look the same when installed in a guitar..
You need to flip it over and read the number.

The original Evo is very loud with high output and very bright.
And that's what it's SUPPOSED to be...

Re: evolution 2 pickups

Going on ibanez site, seems like new ones come with the 158/159. Is it safe to say the white Jem never came with the EVO 2? Me and screwdrivers don't get along.

Re: evolution 2 pickups

Bearing in mind I've been playing for over 30 years, I've had all sorts, Soldanos, Boogies, Peaveys and even a Yamaha, but these days I mostly end up practicing through a little Line 6.

Still like the Evo better than the Evo2.

Re: evolution 2 pickups

All white Jem 7VWH's come with the original Evolution pickups. The only Jem that has ever come stock with an Evo2 Bridge pickup is the current Jem 77FP2 (black/red floral pattern).
