Question HELP - S5470, RG1527, and RGA121 Wiring Questions!

Hello,

I just purchased 3 Ibanez Prestige guitars and I have a few questions (problems), as I will be replacing all my pickups.

1. S5470 - Crunch Lab bridge, Injector Neck middle, Breed neck
2. RG1527 - D Activator bridge, Liquifire neck
3. RGA121 - Evolution bridge, Liquifire neck

Both RG and RGA have 2 humbuckers, a volume, tone, output, and 3-way selector. I want them wired Bridge - Bridge + Neck - Neck, but DiMarzio does not have a wiring diagram for me. That's my first problem.

My second problem is my S5470, which I am thinking about putting a 3-way in as well. I'm sorry if this seems like blasphemy, but it would be wired, very simply, Bridge - Middle - Neck. Thoughts/problems with doing that? Also need a wiring diagram for that, with a volume, tone, and output.

AND my third problem is pot selection. I will be completely rewiring all 3 guitars, but I have no idea what to do with pots. I like the tight feel of the Prestige pots, and I want solid shafts that fit all the guitars without having to expand the current holes, so any suggestions are great.

Needless to say, I like to keep things as simple as possible, so no push-pull, and I'm not huge on pickup splitting and all that added "versatility" that I never use.

Any input is very, very appreciated!!!

Thanks,
Daniel

Re: HELP - S5470, RG1527, and RGA121 Wiring Questions!

You can always visit ibanez.com, click SUPPORT up in the nav bar, then click on WIRING DIAGRAMS, then search for your guitar. They don't have everything listed--but have many.

I found your RGA121 here:

http://www.ibanez.com/supportResourc...07/RGA121H.pdf

Heep in mind that most DiMarzio humbuckers are 4-conductor, and the leads are all the same. You just need to know the lugs on your switch.

There are also tons of resources in this sticky thread:

FWIW, I've never been able to find a diagram for a 3-pickup guitar with a 3-way switch that will switch 1.bridge 2.middle 3.neck- I think it requires a special switch that, so far, I've never been able to find.................

This setup is exactly what I'd like to have in one of my 760's

Is this a challenge? Are you sending me on a quest, old buddy?
ACCEPTED!

What do you want the pickups to do--just on-on-on?
With a 3-way, might be the only choice.
I know there are toggles--Ace had 3 hum Les Pauls.
You'll need a blade switch, and I know StewMac has a 3-way blade that will do it.

Let me keep looking...

***edit***
Have you tried the DiMarzio 3-way switch?
It should do what you want.

You don't need a wiring diagram:
You need a standard telecaster 3 way switch, and it's the easiest wiring of them all.
1. Wire both commons to hot.
2. Solder the black and white together and isolate them on both pickups.
3. Green and bare wires to ground.
4. Red to hot lug, neck on one side and bridge on the other side. Connect hot lug to mid lug on both sides of the switch and there you go.

This one is even easier.
you need only one side of the pickupswitch.
1. Hot to common.
2. Red (neck) on neck lug
3. Green (mid) on mid lug
4. Red (bridge) to bridge lug
Solder black & whites together on all pickups.
Green and bare to ground on neck & bridge.
Red and bare to ground on the middle single coil.

Re: HELP - S5470, RG1527, and RGA121 Wiring Questions!

You guys are all awesome for your replies, but I have no idea what "common" and all that means. Where do I ground to? I'm an amateur trying to tackle this without paying a tech, as I'd rather learn for myself. If there's any way to draw it out or make the instructions foolproof, please do so. I would appreciate that beyond words!

Thanks again!

Did you look at the sticky I posted?
Everything you need to know is there.

Plenty of links--even soldering technique.

Every diagram there shows where to ground to--that's why I asked.

The other articles also go into it--and explain why.

Again--there are TONS of links there to every type of wiring diagram.
guitarelectronics.com alone has enough to satisfy about every possible wiring combo.

The "common" lug is the "out" that goes to the volume pot.

I hate to be that guy, but are you sure about having 2 guitars with LiquiFire pickups? I have an RG570 and an S540 with the CL/LF set. I like the Crunch Lab but the Liquifire is not my favorite pickup for sure. The single notes sound pretty good with a beefy and JP-esque attack, but the second you play more than one note at a time, it's like the pickup just vomits noise out of my amp.

This is exactly why Iove different combos in my guitars.
The only exception, is one of my favorite combos--but in different model guitars. DiMarzio Super D and PAF Pro in an RG 550 and my Destroyer. Totally different sound.

Re: HELP - S5470, RG1527, and RGA121 Wiring Questions!

Hey man, I'm happy you brought that up because honestly, I wasn't totally sure. I already have the Liquifire for the RGA, but the RG7 can still be changed. I'm just not sure what's good for a 7 string neck pickup. I play mostly progressive/heavy metal with a ratio of about 1:1000 with clean tones, so it is more for high gain playing. I'm not trying to "stay away" from any certain tone, I would just like something relatively clean with higher output that sounds good as a 7 string pickup.

If anyone has any suggestions at all, please throw them my way. It has to be DiMarzio, that's my only condition.

Thanks again!
