Re: help!!! single coil for neck

you already have 2 good pickups, I would just use those and save the money for a new guitar.

Sell your Tone Zone S, buy an Air Norton S and put it in the neck position, get a True Velvet for the middle position.

So many choices there. Typhon pretty much nails with his comment, but let us know more about what you like / don't like with your current setup, your amp, and what you're into etc. is strat basswood or alder?

Re: help!!! single coil for neck

Hey,

I've got an old early 80's Kramer H-S-S with a basswood body & OFR and I put a Seymour Duncan Screamin Demon Jr in neck position to balance an SD JB bridge (full size hum). This pup has some mixed reviews but I absolutely LOVE it in this guitar. Its hotter than a single coil but still mellow enough for crystal clear clean work. Very warm, rich sound. Sounds awesome for ballsy-bluesy solo work with med-heavy distortion.

Of course, as others have mentioned, it would be helpful to know the style you play, the specs on your axe, and the tone you're shooting for.

And btw, even though my Kramer was not a high end guitar in its day, I've had it for over 25 years and customized it extensively and it is now an incredible 1-of-a-kind axe. Don't sweat that your axe is "only" a Squier... if you like it that's all that matters. And you can feel comfortable tweaking on it BECAUSE its not an expensive axe. I'm much less inclined to mess with my JEM or Les Paul than I am to mess with my Kramer, ya know...

Just look at what Eddie Van Halen did back in the 70's with spare parts creating his now famous "Frankenstrat"... that thing wouldn't have been worth 2 cents to anyone but him back then, but it became the basis for feel & tone that all his signature models have striven to replicate and/or improve upon since.

The TZ-S is amazing in the middle position on my 770. I would keep it as/is and install the Air Norton S in the neck. It would make a KILLER combo.
