Help with ungrade Ibanez S770PB

Hello Guys my name's Mike, im from Surfers Paradise Australia been playing music for over 20 years now and play several types and styles of music
Love guitar and most string instruments like Sitars

I recently purchased an Ibanez S770PB , and must say that its a great guitar but unfortunately not heavy enough for my needs which is a harsh Industrial Metal sound.
The Guitar has a Mahogany Body with Poplar Burl Top

The Guitar also came with stock pickups which are

Bridge - INF2
Middle - INFS1
Neck - INF2

these arnt bad but i was thinking to changing them to

Bridge - Seymour Duncan SH-13 ( i had previously BL L500XL in a Jackson)

Middle - DiMarzio Air Norton S DP180

Neck - Seymour Duncan SH-8n Invader (or keeping the INF2) or
DiMarzio PAF pro

Is this a weird Mix ?? I never seen ppl mix DiMazio and SD's together ?

Can anyone suggest any Middle and Neck pick-ups that would go with the SH-13's or any other cool combos
BTW I already have purchased the SH-13's

Thanks in advance

For harsh industrial sounds I'd consider EMGs. That or Invaders bridge and neck.

Do you really get much use out of your middle single when playing your style of music? I've never really had a use of it when playing industrial style. I wouldn't bother replacing it if you wouldn't really use it.

Re: Help with ungrade Ibanez S770PB

Fair point

Another question then
My other guitar the Ibanez RGA42FM Has the IBZ LZ Active pickups
Would it be hard/costly to install the EMG 81/85 combo in them
I know that the EMG's require 9V for starters and the RGA has only a 2xAA batteries

I have some money saved up but don't want to spend a fortune on a custom job

Thanks for ya help though

If you swap out the pickups for EMGs--you'll also be installing the included EMG electronics. All of your original pickups and active components will be gone, so that's not an issue.

Yep--it's only for the mid cut circuit.

Just slap some Dizmarzio Dominions in and rock on, bud!

Re: Help with ungrade Ibanez S770PB

Okie got the EMG 81/85 Zakk Wyld pu set for the RGA42FM

Will install that in few weeks , I'll change the bridge pu on the S770 to the Dimebucker

My question now is this

1) Is there any point retaining the RGA eq on the RGA42 if installing the EMG's Will it even work ??

2) I saw these 18v upgrade kits for the 81/85's any point getting these ? Will it really increase the sound that much ?

Cheers

That EQ circuit has no bearing in what pickups you put in, however--you'll need room for both battery packs.
Concerning the 18v mod--EMG enthusiasts seem to love it.

Re: Help with ungrade Ibanez S770PB

Don't buy an 18V upgrade, waste of money. Make it yourself. Get 3 9V battery snaps and wire each red to another's black, and so forth. Easy to do! That all they are.

Re: Help with ungrade Ibanez S770PB

You should have gotten the EMG X's because they have the headroom of a regular EMG @ 18v.

Re: Help with ungrade Ibanez S770PB

all good i got the 81/85's for $150 AU brand new so saved over $100 here in oz which is a joke really
and the 18V kit with a select switch was $5 so didn't really care much bout that
Anyways this is for the RGA42FM

My issues now are these:

1) Do I want 4 knobs (which i have no room for in a RGA 2xvol 2xtone)
2) 3 Knobs 2xvol 1xmaster tone or
3) 2 Knows 1Vol x 1Tone .. yes I do use tone BTW
4) do I keep the Ibanez EQ ?? will it work with 9/18v set up since the IBZ PU's are 3V ??
since when i look at the RGA42 wire diagram the EQ shows a +/- 3V switch
no biggie I guess , i dont mind the EQ though it makes the sound go bit Muddy

Again Cheers for all your help , i'll get onto the RGA in a few 2 weeks just waiting on a solderless 3 way selector to come in .

Getting the S770 Done tomorrow , will be getting the SH-13 Dimebucker installed in the bridge

Re: Help with ungrade Ibanez S770PB

I already told you about the EQ--you can't run it from the EMG power supply, and would have to keep the power source separate or you'll fry the board.

Re: Help with ungrade Ibanez S770PB

Just put in a volume and tone, like what is already set up in your guitar. Keep it simple.
