How to wire a DPDT on/on/on as on/off/on

I have a wiring diagram that called for a SPDT on/off/on. I ended up with a DPDT on/on/on. I've read I can make this work by jumping certain contacts. I've tried jumping the centers across and I get a kill switch in the center position instead of both pickups. Can I make this work? Thanks.

Ed.

Jump the 2 center ones. Use the upper left and lower right terminal for your outside connections. That'll make it function exactly like the SPDT switch.

Thanks. I think I used the upper right and lower left which after looking at the diagram it would make sense that it would short out both.
