So I'm still hesitating between pickups.
I'm going to post different but more precise questions in different threads.
It's all in the title... You know, that chugga chugga sound... Isn't it too shrill to keep definition?
AND: How about the Blaze custom (7) for that type of palm mute riffing?
I would say the Blaze (not the custom) is a great pickup for what your describing. Think John Petrucci heavy tones. If you really want heavy tones you can go for EMG pickups which rock but will require some routing to get them to fit.
The evo7 sounds (to my ears) quite different from the evo 6 string version. The 6 isn't great for the sound you want but the evo7 is. I agree with RSVampire though, the blaze is the way to go. PAF7s would be too low output, and I personally don't like tonezones.
Thanks guys, but the thing is, I want the pick up to be great for solo's too. Now the blaze bridge is really good for palm mute chugs, but not for solos. The blaze custom, well I thought it was goot for solos, but not for chugs... And so I figured I might try the Evo7, but people said pal muting sounds like a train wreck on that one...
Any opinions on either one of the three?
The Blaze is still a great solo pickup despite what you may have heard. While the Blaze Custom has more mids to make it stand out more but it still makes a great solo pickup.
I have an X2N that's a great all around metal pickup. Great leads and chunk. Perhaps Dimarzio has a 7 string version?
