ibanez 3PS1VLX91 (Multiswitch VLX91)

Hey all, was just wondering where I can pick one of these up? Is it worth switching my Fender 5 way in my custom Jem for this?

Thanks,
Brett

If you can do coil splitting with the switch you have, No.
If not, Yes.

Re: ibanez 3PS1VLX91 (Multiswitch VLX91)

I think this switch only combines pickups.
I don't think it can spit humbuckers.
It has a different size switch tip than Ibanez switches too.
This may or may not be a problem for you depending on the switch tip you are going to use.
Check out the switches and knobs/tips at
www.guitarpartsonline.com
The tips they sell fit both sizes, they look like a + on the botom.

Alright thank you, so i should be buying the VLX91? If so do you know any good stores online that sell that?

Edit: Also do I need a push/pull pot for anything?

Thanks,

Brett

Re: ibanez 3PS1VLX91 (Multiswitch VLX91)

You only need the push/pull if you want one humbucker and only one of it's coils on, like a single coil bridge or neck.

The place I listed has 5 way switches, I think they are just like the Ibanez switch.

I'm not sure where to ge the real Ibanez part.
I lucked in to a stack of them a while back and they are going in my guitars slowly.

Re: ibanez 3PS1VLX91 (Multiswitch VLX91)

Thank you very much, I would just like my custom to be stock to the original. If i would want it to the same as the original i would have to get the vlx91 and the push pull right?

I appreciate your help!

EDIT: Will this work? item number- 2c5898444a

Re: ibanez 3PS1VLX91 (Multiswitch VLX91)

A real JEM has no push/pull pot
The switch in positions 2 and 4 split the humbucker and turn on the middle single coil.
This way they work to get her like a humbucker in a way, two different pickups as one.

Re: ibanez 3PS1VLX91 (Multiswitch VLX91)

It looks like any other 5 way switch from the outside of the guitar.
But it plulls off all the coil taping and combo stuff.
I think it does what they call a coil drain to turn one of the humbuckers coils off.

A multiswitch is a tone or volume knob that spins to change pickup settings.

Yep, you'll be able to do:

or this:

Or just about any kind of switching you can imagine.

Feel free to disagree as much as you want, but I think the VLX91 cuts part of the bass frequencies coming from the pickups.
