Installing Carvin pickups in an SF470 - Help!!!
I am a newbie here based in the UK and a clutz when it comes to wiring!!! I bought my first Ibanez in 1979 - a beautiful PF300 I still own - and I now want to upgrade my SF470.
I am going nuts trying to instal Carvin pickups in my old SF470 eventhough it is a simple H-S-H replacement. The Carvin humbuckers have the following wiring:
I understand from reading this forum that the Ibanez 5 way selector is slightly unusual and I therefore looked for a diagram which I found at: http://www.ibanez.com/wiring/wire.asp?y=1994&w=SF470
On wiring the pickups I found that the single coil sounds awful and out of phase too I think. I reversed the wiring for it and it did provide some noise cancelling but the positions 2 and 4 sound very weak and not pleasing (but better than with the wires the other way round). Carvin assure me the wiring is correct on their pickups. Maybe I misread the diagram in that it is pretty confusing (or so a friend tells me) and the original Ibanez pickups only seem to have a red and a white wire (and shield)?
The carvins are the H22T, H22N and AP11: http://www.carvin.com/products/group.php?CID=PU
Any help you can give guys would be greatly appreciated - especially a clearer diagram or written instructions!!
