JEM BUILD: Copper Tape = no pickup hum (pics)
Just starting building my first Ibanez Jem and so far its been as challenging as I expect. First time I wired it up the hum coming from my new Evo2 pickups was terrible. I checked all the soldering and it was perfect, disconnected all the pickups and realised that the hum was in fact coming from my initial jack. Not a wire grounding issue as I only had it wired to vol pot and everything that should have been grounded was. That's when I decided to buy some copper insulating tape. I own a Jem 77FP and what you don't realise is that the factory ones have rubber insulating paint inside them. So I filled all the pickup cavities and the electris and tremolo and the jack cavity and wired it all back into place. Just tried it now and its silent. Was soooo relieved to know I wasn't gonna spend rest of my days battling with the soldering iron.
Get the neck next week so will let you know how I get on.
