Jem7V tone problems near upper frets.

So I've been experiencing this problem for over a year, and it's been getting on my nerves now. Near the upper frets of the third, fourth, and fifth (but in a weaker manner than the others), the tone starts acting up on painfully and it all just ends up sounding bad. I can best describe the tone with a video (the visuals are unimportant, but the audio is

I'm pretty sure it's not the pedal, because I rerouted my setup to exclude the pedal and I still got the same noise.

Any ideas on how to tackle this? Or is anyone familiar with what that's caused by, at least? I tried googling it a few months ago, but nothign useful came up.

EDIT: Yes, it's an Ibanez Jem7V. It wasn't used, this was present since I bought this beauty.

My mac doesn't seem to like wmv because I'm not getting any audio from your video, but generally if you get weird sounds as you travel up the neck it could be that your pickup height is interferring with the vibration of the string. The magnetic field of the pickups can cause a kind of 'wubwubwub' sound if the pickups are too high.

Alright, that sounds...physically logical (Oh god I'm an engineering student how the hell did I not see that?), so I'll do that tomorrow because it's....pretty late, actually, and I have classes tomorrow, so there's that!
I'll come back tomorrow and tell you how the "repairs" went.

Re: Jem7V tone problems near upper frets.

Oh. Well, I never got to find a combination of pickup heights that worked, and I couldn't really determine which pickup was causing the problem, because moving ALL the pickups as far away as possible didn't help at all, but I noticed the problem was SLIGHTLY resolved when bringing the pickups closer to the strings.

I decided that, instead of fixing the tone, I'll just shred fast enough to hide the trill-noise.

Otherwise, I don't think there's anything I can do, since I can't identify the problematic pickup.

Is there something other than a pickup that can cause that?

Re: Jem7V tone problems near upper frets.

If you lowered all the pickups and it didn't solve the problem do you not have any problems with the pickups.

I could not see or hear the video at all so it is hard to guess.
But possible problems are,

To low action, probably caused by to strait neck (and/or tremolo to lowdown in the body).
If the action are low then the strings will hit the frets when vibrate, that can either kill sustain or make strange sounds.

One of the frets above problem starts that are to high (have come up from the fretboard or are badly leveled, most likely the first).

Something being loose, saddles on tremolo, locking nut on neck etc.

Tremolo springs vibrating to much.

See if any of that helps.

try putting on new strings? old strings seem to vibrate less evenly compared to new ones.

Make sure to tighten your neck and tighten your nut. Youd be surprised how many anamolies happen with those areas.

Alright, that helped me greatly. However, there's still a small bit of interference that I can't get off my mind.

Funnily enough the screws that hold the neck and the nut on.

Re: Jem7V tone problems near upper frets.

Well, whatever wasn't considered tight previously can now be considered tight. Unfortunately, I don't have the amplifier to test this out, so.....we shall see what happens in 4 months time (when I get my amplifier back from storage)

Thanks once again, guys!

Well, I'm not really sure about the year, but it's an Edge bridge (as far as I can tell).
