Talking Just hand wired my own pickup!!

yeah, so there i was, pulling apart my cheap strat copy that hasn't been used in a while when i thought it might be cool to see how the pickup was made. it only has the one humbucker. so i took it out and started pulling it apart, first there was the material layer that covered the whole thing, then there was an electrical tape style thing covering each of the two pieces,(i dont know the technical word, maybe coil?) So as i was taking this covering off the first one, i ripped into the copper wire. Well, already i had learnt quite about how it was made and it was only getting better. Today i went to the electronics store, bought some electrical tape, a soldering iron, solder and the wire itself. I made sure it was the right kind but having said that i bought a much thicker wire or it would have taken too long and been too frustating to twine it on the coil. So i spent probably an hour all up just winding and winding around while watching tv untill i had run out of copper. I should have bought more but it was cool anyway. so i soldered it back on and plugged it in. It sounds pretty cool but i think it would really benefit from more wire. also there is quite a lot of humming. Has anyone else tried anything like this and if so, do you know how to stop at least most of the humming?
Ive taken some pics an will put them up if you like. Any comments are welcome.

Re: Just hand wired my own pickup!!

Did you wind the other coil in reverse or in the same "direction"?

Re: Just hand wired my own pickup!!

I believe there was a tutorial on winding your own pickups at projectguitar.com that would probably help you out. But while you're at it, why not change the magnet?

Re: Just hand wired my own pickup!!

i only wound the one coil to answer the above question and i have no idea if it was the right way because the wire was sooooo thin on it in the first place so i had to just cut it all off.
And also why would i want a new magnet and where would i get one?
