Last year I struggled finding pups and a config (tone circuit) that could tame the brightness of my Kawai Aquarius. I bought a FRED and was way to much trebly to me and had a chance to deal it with a norton. I had a double whammy in neck position which I took of my RG 550 LTD and replaced by a Paf Joe.
The double hammy sounded a bit too dark in neck position so last sunday I swapped the 2 neck pups: just awesome. I was missing this double whammy in my RG550 so much!
No regrets! the paf joe in the Aquarius is great too, a little less bright than it was in the RG as it is 1cm closer to the nut and it's typical voicing I love is not impaired!
Now the combination NORTON - PAJ JOE is very balanced and makes the Aquarius absolutely versatile (500k pot and 2*22nF caps on the tone circuit).
The RG has a wider range as the EVO2 in bridge is lovely and the double whammy has this typical open wah sound which is great!
I think I eventually found something I'll be happy with for at least a couple or years!!!
