Low/high output pickups distorted

I'd like to get an idea of how a heavily distorted low output pickup sounds compared to a high output pickup with just some distortion, could you guys give me any tips on songs in which either of these distinguish themselves?

Thanks!

Re: Low/high output pickups distorted

I'm not quite sure if this relates, but I have a pair of Seymour duncans on my ESP Eclipse (JB in bridge, Jazz in neck) and I have their heights very low, under the pickup ring by about 3 cm. I did this to attain more clarity and articulation, and it works very well for my tastes, but compared to my band's other guitarist (emg's in an ltd h-1000, they're fairly high up close to the strings), my sound seems to be lacking something. It works for me though.

Re: Low/high output pickups distorted

Oh, perhaps I didn't express myself clear enough, sorry.

I'm after some example of songs in which the guitarist uses either...
  1. ...a low output pickup with very much distortion/gain/drive or...
  2. ...a high output pickup with just some distortion/gain/drive

I mean, in the end both options should be getting kind of the same 'amount' of drive since high output pickups already has a lot of power in themselves. But it gotta be some difference in the the sound, I guess?

(Man, I just realized I'm having a hard time explaining this, sorry about that.)
