Middle Pickup for S470

Hey guys,

I understand that this topic has been discussed before on these glorious forums, but please bare with me...

I managed to score a beautiful looking S470DXQM in Red Viking for 250. It was second hand and in mint condition. Snapped it up without hesitation!

I play mainly clean, blues and jazz and the 2 and 4 positions on my sabres are indispensable tones for me (I'd pick neck over bridge every time).

I want to install an Air Norton in the neck and Tone Zone in the bridge, but I'm kinda stuck on deciding a middle pickup.

I want something that's warm and full bodied with quite a bit of output so that the split positions don't sound too anemic (like the current INF-S1).

I know Ibanez are keen on the Blue/True Velvet in their J-Custom range, however the DiMarzio "Pickup Picker" also recommends Red Velvet and FS-1.

What are your experiences of these pickups in split positions?

Check out the Seymour Duncan Custom Flat SSL-6. It'll give you a nice fat tone by itself and it's great in with 2 and 4 positions.

Well, the Ibanez Prestige RG655 comes with an Air Norton Neck, Tone Zone bridge, and True Velvet middle. I think they balance pretty well, keeping in mind the mahogany body of the S will sound different than an RG. If your S470 works like the ones I had, you have to keep in mind that the pickup selector switch runs one coil from the humbucker together with the middle pickup in the 2 and 4 position. A really hot middle pickup might muddy up those switch positions.

You could check out the Duncan Cool Rails too. Sweet pickup for the middle position.

The Area 67 by Dimarzio would be a great choice - I have Dimarzio Area pups in the middle position on 2 of my prestige RGs and they are great pups...when I called Dimarzio and talked to them on the phone the guy recommended the Area pup for my RG HSH pup configuration so that's what I went with and I liked it enough to put one in another RG
