Avoid the True Velvet in basswood. It sounds thin and lifeless.

Music : rock , mostly instrumental satriani , vai , andy timmons etc ....
Amps : Marshalls , multieffects , sometimes amp modelers
rosewood fretboard
edge zero2 bridge
pickups are direct mounted
hope that helps ....

What tone are you after?
SRV or a humbucker tone?
High output or low output?

I am digging the Area '67 in the middle of Mi alder-bodied Jap strat/maple fretboard/mesa triaxis/2:90. It jingles in the right way...

Area 61 is a lower output pickup.
Just get a Fender Texas Special.

I'm not sure about those particular pickups, but I can guarantee that the True Velvet in basswood sounds bland, and I have a Premium. I'd consider a Red Velvet or HS instead as you've menctioned.

Re: Middle single coil suggestion for RG 870Z

An air norton S will do EXACTLY what he wants. It'll require a different switch if he want's to split it, but will be perfect in hum mode.

FWIW, I have a Tone Zone S in the middle of my 770. It finally mad positions 2,3,and 4 useable on my guitar. Soloing on the TZ-S is amazing.
