Muddy PAF Pro

Hello everyone!

I'd like to hear if anyone has a problem like mine. I have a heavy mahogany
24-fret guitar with floyd rose. In bridge position I use both versions of Breed pickup (not at the same time of course), I find them rather different and both very good sounding.
I have a problem with neck pickup. I always used PAF Pro here and I really think this is one of the best neck humbuckers around. But not in my guitar.
It sounds extremely bassy and muddy in low strings, especially when overdriven.
I'm looking for something in PAF region of humbuckers that might get rid of this excessive and loosen bass. I might even be satisfied with Humbucker from hell, but mix-wise I'm not sure it will blend well with Breeds in bridge (impedance-wise especially).
If someone has an idea I should consider....
Its not practical for me to buy two-three neck humbuckers and try them all.

Re: Muddy PAF Pro

Well if you're using the Breed bridge and Breed neck pickups then there's your problem right there. Look at the EQ graph on dimarzio's website. It's all bass and mid's. Replace the neck pickup with a Paf Pro or a Paf Joe and it'll sound a lot less muddy.

+1 for the PAF Joe

I think it sounds a bit clearer and open, with less boomy bass. I prefer it over the PAF pro in my JS1000. I think it matches the FRED (bridge) alot better. just my opinion

Re: Muddy PAF Pro

If my post was confusing:

I have both Breeds for bridge and PAF Pro is in neck position.
I didnt even try breed neck in neck position, its going to be even worse than PAF Pro.
So, it is PAF Pro in neck that I'm not satisfied with. As you say my options are
PAF Joe, then Air Classic, Virtual PAF or perhaps Humbucker from hell....

Re: Muddy PAF Pro

I would try a PAF Joe, it's supposed to be brighter and MUCH more clear than a Paf Pro but with the same basic sound to it. Much less boomy than a Paf Pro.
