My favorite HSH wiring atm.

Here's my favorite HSH wiring at the moment.

What I wanted was the north coil of the neck pickup along with the middle single coil to produce the strat like quack sound.
Other than that it's pretty much like a RG3120 wiring except for the tone knob which is only working in position 2,3 &4
I never liked the sound of a mid single alone or split between mid single and bridge hum, so they had to go.
Keep in mind that the neck humbucker does NOT have reversed magnet.

How do the inner coils of the humbuckers split sound? I wanted to do that with one of my guitars so I'm curious as to what kind of sound they make.

That's the Petrucci split. Listen to Dream Theater's records.
Your choice of amps and pickups naturally makes a certain difference.

Ah, okay. I was thinking of doing it with gravity storms.

I also noticed you did the Tosin Abasi split in your 3rd position. How is that?

Re: My favorite HSH wiring atm.

That was the whole reason to do the wiring to get the strat-like quack sound.
And I love it.....For clean obviously.

How is it with some gain or even high gain? I'm not crazy with gain but I do keep gain up fairly high.

Re: My favorite HSH wiring atm.

It's like any other split variation, with gain full humbucking has the juice.

Ah okay. Makes sense

BTW, maybe you might be interested in this, but in my 550 I put IBZ/USA F4 in the neck and F2 in the bridge and the middle single coil is still the stock S1. In normal split coil mode, the bridge/mid split is kinda twangy like a telecaster and the neck/mid split is sorta stratocaster-like. If you have the chance to test it out, it sounds really good

Re: My favorite HSH wiring atm.

I also have a wiring in a HH combo withone coil of each pup placed in series: this is a great combination, especilly if each pup has a very different character (eg double whammy and air norton for me).

You think it would work well with neck/bridge gravity storms? They are 2 very different pups.

Try reversing the black & red wires. With the S1 singles it will totally change the sound of the split positions.

Normally the black goes to ground & red goes to the switch.
I accidentally wired it backwards (black to switch & red to ground) on a build and was amazed.

I do this every time now.

Wooo, when I get my 5-way selector replaced, I'll make sure to tell the shop to do that for me
