Are my INF1/2 microphonic?

Hi

I have a Ibanez which squeals and feedbacks pretty crazily if I turn it to high volume , around a 6 on volume and 6 on gain on a Fender FM 212 DSP .

It kind sounds like EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE all the way.
You can tap on it and when i talk to the PUPs , i can hear myself through the amp.

Now this ONLY happens when I rest my palm on the pickups , or even float slightly above it.

It doesn't happen when I'm handsfree from the guitar.. Which is really weird.
I believe this is a case of a microphonic pickup , however I brought it back to the store a few weeks ago where they tested it out on some amp , and strangely there was no feedback even at high volumes .. ( But the store guy was playing it so there was a chance he didn't even rested his palm on the PUPs.)

Hi ,

Why is that so ? Many people have told me that is the case , but many of the symptons I am facing seems to be pointing me to the fact that the pickup is microphonic.

I tried it on 4 different amps , a Line 6 Spider IV 150 , a Line 6 Spider IV 30 , a Jazz chorus 120 , and a FM 212 .

Now when I set the gain and volume around 6 on the two line 6 and the FM , I experience this annoying squeal ..

BUT , the line 6 IV 30 and the FM has grounding issue .. making static noise when the guitar is plugged it .. So could that be the culprit?

(Not sure about the IV 150 though ..)

Re: Are my INF1/2 microphonic?

From my limited experience the static noise comes from a ground issue in the guitar, not the amps. Either a lead came loose or there's a cold solder joint. For the squealing on certain amps, it sounds like it might be the pickup, but I can't say for sure. Definitely look over the guitar wiring though. Hopefully somebody more experienced will chime in here.

I don't think my guitar is the cause of the static noise .. on the amps that I tried , most of them already had static noise as long as a jack is plugged into it , whithout a receiving end .

Yeah if it's the pick-ups responsible for the squealing then it might be tougher to handle ..

Why can't you just go in, inspect the wiring, and maybe just rewire it to be sure?
Sounds very much like a grounding issue.

So asking for help isn't going to do you much good, it's probably something a tech can fix in minutes. This happens on multiple amps, what makes you think it isn't the guitar?

I guess your right .
Strange thing is , I did send it back to the shop .
They used some not well known brand amp , which was pretty big , and viola , there was no static from that amp at all . NO feed backing either .

Ah oh well ..

Re: Are my INF1/2 microphonic?

Hmm. Do you have more than one guitar cable? That could be another common factor to look into. There were times I thought my wiring was messed up and it turned out to be the cable.
