need help changing stock V8-R2 pup to Seymour Duncan invader

I have an Ibanez RG2EX1 with stock V8 bridge pup. Want to replace with Seymour Duncan invader. Wiring diagram with new pup does not fit my guitar wiring - I have a slide switch to select pup plus 1 tone & 1 volume pot instead of 4 individual pots. Stock V8 pup has white, red,& bare wires; SD invader has 5 wires(green, black, red, white, & bare). Need diagram or info to know how the wires match up between the 2 manufacturers plus any other advise. Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: need help changing stock V8-R2 pup to Seymour Duncan invader

One thing i can help with....if you get a plastic or wooden coat hanger...get an old get string (gauge does not matter)..and twist it or tie it(does not matter how) and make sure it has tension on it so it makes a bit of noise.
The point to this is so when your change pickups you can check you wiring before reinsalling the pickgaurd or coverplates...or wasting good strings.
Just hold the hanger above the pickups and have it all pugged in to an amp of couse.
So now you can soilder the pick ups temp. and test them straight away.
It will onlt take 10minutes or so to go throught the possible combos .
Hope this helps a bit.

When you remove the old pickup (I'm presuming its a H-H setup) solder the black wire to where the red went at the end of the pickup selector. Solder the red and white together and then solder to the other other tab that the bridge pickup wire went. Green and bare go to the back of the volume pot.

I hope that's clear enough to help you. I can't draw a diagram right now.

Thank you! That was just the info I was looking for. Got the job done & it sounds fine.

Re: need help changing stock V8-R2 pup to Seymour Duncan invader

It's actually my son's guitar & he is very happy with it. He & my oldest son (drummer)play in a band together & their next gig is on the 12th. They practiced tonight & everyone was happy with the improved sound. He's been turning up the distortion levels pretty high on his amp to compensate for what his old pickup couldn't give him. He's only 14 but he knows what he likes and I'm sure this is only the first of many mods to come. I guess he'll be wanting me to show him how to use my soldering iron. He had originally wanted to trade in the guitar for a new one but this new pickup has him satisfied for now. He has 2 other guitars (a Prestige & a 7-string) but he likes to keep each in different tunings for playing different music. He plays metal-core with the band but enjoys learning challenging guitar parts from artists like Buckethead, Periphery, & Scale the Summit. Thanks again for for your help. Patty
