New pickups which set?

Im looking to upgrade my rg350 for fun. I currently have a dimebucker in the bridge and the rest of the pickups are stock inf's in the rg350. The dimebucker is so bright that i have to roll down my tone knob a bit, also this rg has a maple fingerboard so it adds to the brightness. So I was thinking about going with a set of breeds and I am just going to keep the singlecoil stock as I dont really use it to often, I want to get a good hot bridge and neck but versatile. To go from vai to metal. So should I go with the breed or stick with a evo for this one or something else??

Dominion bridge and neck. Similar to Breed but tighter and more focused. Awesome pickups!

Would that sound good in basswood and not to bright or thin.

Depends what kind of music you want to play. I have a set of Dominions and for that nice sustain crunchy metal its amazing.... If your a lead player, it might be a little bright.... which then I would suggest the crunch lab, cause it gives you the best of both worlds in my opinion. Crunch and smooth lead tones...

Sounds great in my basswood RG. If it gets too bright for lead then turn the tone knob down a little or switch to the neck.

Re: New pickups which set?

I have....

RG2XXV, 1XXV & RG350 - Breeds & HS-2
RG331 - Evos
RG321 - Gravity Storms
JS100 - PAF Pro & Fred
RG350 - X2Ns & HS3

Defin. think the breeds are my fav for rock/metal but if your into Blues rock I suggest the FRED/PAF Combo...... the Gravity Storms are worth a shot too.... verry nice!

How's the Gravity Storm (bridge) compared to the Breed?

Re: New pickups which set?

I personally think I Like the Breed a bit more, but then again I Play mainly rock and metal with my Breed loaded Rgs..... It has great sustain, cuts thru well, the Gravity Storm sounds a little more..'Tame'...... But both great pickups..... You wont go wrong with either

The Gravity Storm bridge is more mid-heavy and warmer than the Breed. It's like a Breed with the high's rolled back a little. There is NO audible difference in output between the two.

As said above, they're both incredible pickups......... you cannot pick wrong.

Re: New pickups which set?

Hmm I see, thanks to both of you! In fact I used a pair of Breeds for 3 years, but it appeared to me that the bridge version of the Gravity Storm was pretty similar to the Breed.

I wonder if Steve Vai will be using his new pickups now, because he barely used the Breeds or Evo 2...
