Ok...Now 565 pickup questions

Ok so I have not tried the original pickups yet because I tore down the guitar to clean it and check everything, get ready for a setup yada. The pickups sure look like the ones that are supposed to come in the 565. There are no ibanez or dimarzio markings on them, actually no markings of any kind. Was the original HB2 only a 2 wire lead? I thought they would have the typical 4 wire set up. This is a very early one as the serial dates it a 1990, but they didnt hit catalogs till 91. If any one has messed with these pickups let me know what to look for please.

Here's an earlier thread talking about the HB2 - might get you started.

Re: Ok...Now 565 pickup questions

So does anyone recognize whether these are in fact the original 565 pickups. I really would have thought they would have been 4 wire and have some kind of markings on them somewhere.

Re: Ok...Now 565 pickup questions

They look right to me, shouldn't be any Dimarzio markings, because they didn't make those at all. Ibanez doesn't have anything stamped on their "in house" pickup baseplates, IIRC.

Re: Ok...Now 565 pickup questions

The neck pup looks correct, but the bridge MUST be a 4-wire. The 565 came with a 5-way switch to split both pups. I read somewhere that there should be a red and a yellow wire on the bridge pup.

I would pull the coils off the baseplate (gently) to see if there are 4+ a bare in the pickup.

That could be......I wish I knew more about them. I thought they all had 5-way's. Your pickup looks stock, the only difference I see from the pic in the '92 catalog is that you have slotted poles. The catalog shows hex poles.

Re: Ok...Now 565 pickup questions

Well I just found a close up of a 91 reb beach that also used the hb2 and it is slotted like mine so that makes me feel a little better. I know rebs were definitely coil split though so it had to have 4 wires by 91. I am truly thinking this one was put together in 90 and maybe they hadnt decided to do a coil split version yet. I am probably just going to go ahead and convert it to a 4 wire so I can split the coil anyway.

Re: Ok...Now 565 pickup questions

I have two HB2's sitting here. Not sure what they originally came out of but one has screw polepieces on the bridge side and no logo and one has hex pole pieces and the HB2 logo. Both are 4-wire with black/red/yellow/blue/bare.

I was going to say, Ibanez has the wiring diagram available for a 1994 RBM400, which uses these pickups.

All back together and reading 16.3k. Now hopefully it will all be worth the effort when it goes back in.
