Question PAF pro versus default V pickup in S series?

Hey Guys.. I have this PAF pro that I used to have in another guitar and I thought it had pretty good output. As a matter of fact, it seemed to have as much almost as a JB duncan I had earlier.

I'm wondering if I stuck it in the bridge position of my S series if it would keep up with the V7 neck pickup? It should sound good with the S series being that it has a Mahogany body. It's a 91 or 02 model. S 470 with Low pro edge, etc.

I realize that the amp helps too, I just don't want too thin of a pup. I thought it sounded great in an LP, and was too bright in a maple neck'd strat with alder body, but not too much, but a little spiky in the treble eq. Anyway, I'm thinking it would about be perfect with the S series.

Also, would I get more gain out of the PAF pro if I changed the magnet to the V Series bridge pup which is Ceramic. I think the PAF Pro is Alinico?

Thanks so much..
Tim

Hey Tim, I agree that the PAF will be a a great match. It will also have more output than the stock V8. No problem keeping up with the V7 in the neck.

FWIW...... The V8 has an A5 magnet, it's the V7 that has the ceramic (if they're both still stock)

Thanks so much RGTfanatic. I'm going to stick that thing in there soon! hehe.. I'm at least considering it. I might go for even a better pup like the Norton or something. I like bright pups that have the ability to cut.. Or, I should say pups that have loads of Mids..
Thanks man..

No problem man. FWIW, I didn't like the tone I got with PAF's in my RGT3120. They were very "quacky"....... tele-like. Of course they were direct mounted into the maple of the neck-thru. I'm guessing thats why they sounded like they did.

Thanks Man.. I had the PAF pro in a Gibson bridge position and I thought it sounded great, which of course has the same woods basically as the S series, so thought it may work out. Will see.. Never can tell, no matter what.. Two identical guitars can sound different with the same pickup..
