Re: pickup advice for rga42

i would go with a set of seymour live wires or blackout classics. It is already set up for actives and the live wires are based on a the JB and jazz set but you get the best of both worlds with the live wires. Great clarity and cut but with all the dynamics of passive.

If you are looking to go passive the lace alumitone deathbucker in the bridge and standard alumitone in the neck are great. I do recommend using 250k pots with them as the pickups have quite a bit of high end in them.

if you want dimarzio pickups there are a lot of different options. It really depends on if you want warmer or more clear, lower power or higher power. I really love the transitions pickups. Steve was an emg player for a long time so his dimarzios are higher power but still retain the passive feel and are much more dynamic and less in your face abrasive then an emg 85 is.

There are many many options but like i said it really depends on what you are going for exactly .

Re: pickup advice for rga42

Sounds like you would dig the Seymour Duncan P-Rails in the neck position and P-Rails Hot in the bridge, along with Triple Shot mounting rings for each pickup. You'll get humbucker, single coil and P-90 tones out of each pickup, which will definitely cover the variety of tones you describe. It'd be hard to find any one pickup that would do all that, apart from the P-Rails.
