Pickup advice for Tele Esquire please

A firend has bought a tele that has been converted to a seymore Duncan, he's not into a rock sound and wants to get it back to a classic sound. Any advice on wat to swap it out for? Does anyone have a view on pearly gates?

Re: Pickup advice for Tele Esquire please

Well, you said he wants a classic sound so a good tele pickup should be the direction. The Pearly gates is a great humbucker but totally out of place on a tele/esquire.(unless they have a pickup I don't know about). Did you mean that the guitar is now routed for a humbucker? Are you talking about the bridge pickup or neck pickup? Remember that the esquire model only came with the bridge pickup while the tele models have 2 pickups.

Hi Albee,

It's as you suggest, a singel pickup modle, configured to take 1x1 single pickup. Sounds like a simple original tele pickup is the answer, off to the for sale forum!

I have Kent Armstrongs in mine, and they sound far, far better than my Fender Nocaster set. Beautiful pickups, as long as you're no brand snob.
