Pickup change for an Ibanez S

I have the S5EX1 in transparent gray, mahogany body, floyd rose. I play metal. Just purchased an Egnater Tweaker 88. My other guitars sound pretty nice through this amp but the S just isnt cutting it. MUCH too muddy sounding. I already wanted to change the pups but wanted to wait till I had a better amp to try it on. Now I know for certain I need a pickup change. The INF's are so muddy. the lows sound horrible.

I play music like Between the buried and me, Gojira, Opeth, The Faceless. I want to stick with passive pups as theres not a lot of room in an S body to put a battery in. I play in C# standard.

I'm looking for something more cutting. thats the only word I can think to describe the sound I'm looking for. I was thinking about gettomg some Evos.

Suggestions please. - Thanks in advance.

Evos or Super D and PAF Pro.

DiMarzio Dominions. The Super Distorton probably isn't fast and articulate enough for the stuff listed.

Seymour Duncan Alternative 8 or Dimarzio X2N.

Re: Pickup change for an Ibanez S

I had a S series many years ago, probably when they first came out. I had the same problem and noticed it wasn't keeping up with my other other guitars.. thin, dark and kind of one dimensional.

I went on a pickup swaping frenzy, so many I can't remember now. There were a few Dimarzios in there though, deffinitely a Super Distortion. The only pickup that gave that S guitar any tone and depth was a Seymour Duncan JB.

I'm not a huge fan of the JB but it worked that particular guitar.

I'm a bit late, but you should consider Bareknuckle Pickups, like the Aftermath or Black Hawk

Re: Pickup change for an Ibanez S

what did you consider in the end? I have the same guitar coming in and itching to settle on new pups before the guitar arrives.

I was going for

neck - mid - bridge
Evo 2 / Area 61 / Paf Pro

What do you reckon?

Some have even told me to take a neck evo 2 and rewire it backwards for the bridge - its some new trend thats being done with Deactivators over at SS.org

Would be good to get some more input on this.

Then again - there's the stock Jcustom / Prestige combo which is the

neck pu DiMarzioŽ Air NortonŽ (H) neck pu
middle pu DiMarzioŽ True Velvet™ Middle (S) mid pu
bridge pu DiMarzioŽ The Tone ZoneŽ (H) bridge pu

but I have friends that even swapped those out for much higher output pups.
