pickup grounding!? desperately need advice

OK today i took my guitar a fender stratocaster HSS to a local guitar tech to have some pickups wired in, after he did the job i left his house and drove home, as soon as i were home i plugged my guitar into my valve half stack and noticed there we a lot of unwanted noise coming from the amp especially when on the distortion channel, also when touching the pickup magnets a loud buzz comes through the amp, then i noticed at the same time while touching metal parts on the guitar the buzz stopped so instantly i thought it wasn't grounded properly.

I then sent the guitar techs a text message explaining what had happened and asked him if i could travel back to his house would he sort out the problem for me, but to my shock he got quite nasty and told me that he cheeked the guitar was properly grounded before i left and then accused me off tampering with it when i got home, very understandably i was angry, and he said for me to bring it back and he would fix the problem, for obvious reason i had already paid him to solder in my pickups so i went back, i was there almost an hour and he kept coming upstairs from his basement and said that the guitar had been checked over and it was grounded properly, but he did not know what was causing the buzzing noises.

I am now stuck on what to do as i don't want to go and pay a different tech and pay out more money to find out that they will not be able to solve this problem, It has crossed my mind if the tech has out of spite not grounded the pickups because i had complained about going back, or if he genuinely can't work out what the problem is with my guitar/pickups.

any advice would be greatly appreciated

Time to learn how to wire your own pickups!
Certainly sounds like a ground problem. Go get 10 posts so you can put some pics in here for us.

Oh you're asking too much.
2 or 4 wires is too much for some, even worse when they have to google for schematics

Re: pickup grounding!? desperately need advice

Based on what you said, I would guess that your pickups ARE grounded but one of the pots are NOT. If you touch the knob and it stops buzzing, it is now grounded. Touch the output jack and see what happens as well. If it buzzes when not touching, there is an open ground, if it stops, then you are now the ground.

Re: pickup grounding!? desperately need advice

any part on the guitar i touch which is metal, strings, volume pot, jack socket plate etc the buzzing stops, also when touching the pickup magnet poles it buzzing very loud, but stops when i touch metal parts with my other hand.

what are the likely causes, and what should i check? also could the volume pot cause a grounding issue, i did buy it new but could it be faulty? i want to learn to to fix these problems myself rather than keep paying guitar techs!

Thanks

If it stops when you touch metal then it's working properly. YOU complete the ground.

but if i complete the ground, ain't that dangerous? and surely if i touch the pickup poles and they make a loud buzz I'm sure that ain't normal.

Sounds normal. Some pickups buzz more than others but it should stop when you touch the strings.
