Question pickup selection help: Dimarzio Evo2 and Breed combo?

I need help selecting new pickups for my ol' RG320dx guitar. (H-H)

I am looking for a combination of pickups that can accomodate a wide range of tones, from screaming highs, to clear (not muddy) lows, to warm sounding licks. My playing styles include progressive metal, instrumental rock, blues, jazz fusion, and funk. Most of the time I lean towards progressive metal and instrumental rock (a la Steve Vai and Guthrie Govan).

I was thinking about the Dimarzio Evo2 for the bridge position, and the Dimarzio Breed for the neck. I've heard that the original evo's were too hot and trebly. Ive also though about the Paf-pros, but I have heard that the Breed's had a little more gusto.

Let me know what you guys think; I am still open to other pickups as well.

for the wide range of tones you are looking for I suggest you:
Paf Pro DP151 (neck) & Norton DP160 (Bridge)

Re: pickup selection help: Dimarzio Evo2 and Breed combo?

I had Breeds, D Sonic, Tone Zone, Air Norton and others for years, and now with Evo 2, True Velvet and Evo neck, I won't be looking for new pickups so soon. Couldn't be happier and should have bought Evos a long time ago.

I like the original Evolutions. If they sound too trebly, then adjust the amp treble know down to compensate.

Thanks guys. It seems like im pretty set with the evo2 at the bridge. My descision now comes down to the neck pickup: evo, breed, or paf-pro? Which would pair up with the evo2 the best, for a wide range of tones?

I think you are safe with both evo neck or paf-pro
