Pickup Selection Help Please

Hi. I have a new Herc JEM swirl I'd like to get pups for but their on backorder for 40 days everywhere I look and I'd like to get my project put together and play the thing! I was gonna get Breed's for neck and bridge, but only the neck breed is available in the color I want.

I already have the ISCV-2 single coil designed to go between breeds or evo's. I really want something different than the Evo's because I have a 7vwh with those already and I'd like more sound options. I really like Satriani's tone in Flying in a Blue Dream and One Big Rush, Oriental Melody. I loved the Crystal Planet album but thought the tone was much better on Flying in a Blue Dream. I like Vai's tone in Boston Rain Melody, Windows to the Soul, and FTLOG. I like Eric Johnson's tone as well, but, ...he's using a Strat, lol.

The options I have available for the neck and bridge right now are:

PAF Pro
Breed Neck
PAF
Norton
Fred
Air Zone
Mo' Joe
Steve's Special
Air Norton
Evo 2 Bridge
Humbucker from Hell
Evo Neck
Evo Bridge
Super III
Double Whammy

I appreciate any help I can get. I'm not real knowledgeable about this stuff.

Oh yeah, ...The JEM is an Alder body.

Mo Joe/Paf Pro

Paf Pro/Paf Pro

Norton/Air Zone

Evo2/Evo Neck

Steve's Special/Hum from Hell

You really have a lot of choices and combinations here.

Re: Pickup Selection Help Please

are those in bridge/neck order?

would the double PAF Pro balance okay with the ISCV-2 middle single coil?

Re: Pickup Selection Help Please

I'm a little biased here (and you might not be able to get them anyways) but I've been using a special Bill Lawrence L-500 7 string pickup for my Schecter V-7. They're the same look as the normal L-500. In fact, they're not as wide as a normal 7 string pickup - they'd fit width wise in a 6 string pup route. But the tone and clarity surpasses the EVO7 by MILES. Again, I haven't met or talked to one other person who has used the 7 string version - and they were a limited run because there isn't enough demand in the 7 string market for Bill Lawrence to make them as a production piece. But every guitar I have has an L-500L in it. The L at the end designates Lead, the L500XL is what dimebag used (not to start a war here of course - I know the documentation is sketchy on that) and the L500R is for the neck position.

If anyone wants any info let me know... Becky Lawrence might have enough parts to build some more...

thanks, but I have a 6 string. I'd like to stick with Dimarzio because of the colors.

Thanks for the help. I purchased the Norton for the bridge and Air Norton for the neck. The Rob Balducci "Empress" audio clip sold me on the Air Norton for the Neck. That's a sound I'm dying to get!

Yay! I can start assembling my swirl when these arrive!

Re: Pickup Selection Help Please

I was dying to try that, but no blue Tone Zones are available right now. I only found one e-bay store that had a stock of blue humbuckers, and they didn't have a blue Tone Zone. I wanted a more "airy" laid back tone for this guitar anyway though, so hopefully I'm getting what I am hearing in my head. I have a friend who works for Gibson and he has really tried to push the TZ on me, but I haven't had a chance to try them. If I'm not happy, I'll try a TZ in the bridge later.

Also, the PAF Pro had the black rivets/poles on the top and there were only one of them. I didn't want my middle and another pup to have chrome poles and one with black poles )

I think you'll be very happy with that combo.

Although it's not very "Satriani", it will still sound killer.

DOH! *smacks self in head* - I've got 7 strings on the brain! Anyways, best of luck man - Dimarzios are quite good.

Will do. Perhaps I'll play something and post it up on myspace once the guitar is all put together to give people a chance to hear the potential of this combo.
