Smile Pickups for Ibanez s570b

I know there are many such threads but since these are my first pickups upgrades I really want it to be a perfect buy.
So I got an Ibanez s570b.I plan to change the stock neck and bridge pickups.I want crunch, clarity and improved sustain in a big way and easy pinch harmonics.Play versatile genre with little leaning towards metal.

metal -
megadeth,slipknot,metallica,log,cob etc

and not so metal -
Pink Floyd,GNR,Porcupine tree,Led Zeppelin,Coldplay,green day,steve vai,blues etc.

Here is what I am looking at.
bridge:-
Dimarzio D-activator

neck:-
paf pro
liquifire

My basic idea was to get some crunchy bridge pickup for metal riffs but also clarity for lead playing.
For neck some awesome bluesy clean tone to make the sound little more versatile to play other less heavy genres. Also the pickup should have a thick tone to cover-up the slim mahogany body.
Please help me out.

Thanks.

Re: Pickups for Ibanez s570b

The bands you mentioned don't say D-activator to me.

Those kinds of tones are more classic and warm.

They're more like the PAF Pro or FRED, medium output pickups with warmth.

Hey I mentioned Slipknot ,Megadeth,LOG,COB too.
Thats what I mostly play. But I also play other less heavy genres mentioned above.
Still you want me to look away from d-activators ?

I am now set on d-activators unless someone points out otherwise.I am looking at air norton and liquifire on neck.Which will sound good with the d-activator ? Also will the d-activator sound thick on my ibanez s570 taking into consideration its slim body.

Thanks.

i Threw evos in my S570bwh, single is good as well as the neck but the bridge can be a little sharp at times but they can handle hi gain and pinch harmonics just fine. I would throw a Paf Pro in the bridge to get a fatter tone so to speak if your looking for that.

i personally dont like the activators in some cases they can sound thin (but not always) they just have lots and presence and overall sound kinda dull to me ala emg.

Re: Pickups for Ibanez s570b

JBs don't always sound great in mahogany. Your S is using mahogany, so I'd avoid the JB just in case it doesn't play nice in your guitar. I find the 59 a little underpowered and bland too.

In terms of Duncans, try a Custom in the bridge and a Pearly Gates Neck in the neck position. I use these in one of my guitars and love them. Extremely versatile, the Custom is great for heavy work, and roll back the volume a little and you can mellow it out. Pearly Gates Neck is great for cleans and higher up leads as well.

Have you looked at the Dominion? Not sure about genre-crossing, but it's beastly for thrash and I'd imagine with a bit of modulation and standard tuning, it'd cover your spectrum.

Re: Pickups for Ibanez s570b

The Dominion is awesome for heavy stuff, I would have suggested them as they are my favourite pickups, but the OP mentioned stuff like Pink FLoyd, Coldplay, blues, etc. they won't be the greatest for those.

Thanks for your replies.I will look into the suggested pickups. The guys at Dimarzios suggested me Transition bridge and an Air norton neck.
This may be noob like question but can I fit an air norton s in an humbucker position without drilling additional screws?
I have got a sweat local deal on an air norton s.If I can't fit it in my humbucker neck can I use it in middle single coil position ?
Thanks.

Actually, yes, Transitions would be perfect, they are very versatile. Didn't think of those. I've actually got a set for sale in the classifieds if you are interested.

Thanks man but I would like to keep my options open.I checked out the transition video and I didn't quite like note separation. It was a little muddy for my taste. While I just love jb's separation.
About the air norton s in humbucker position. Can it be done ?

Re: Pickups for Ibanez s570b

It would help to know what you're playing through: amp, effects, etc.

If you have a decent amp--go with medium output pickups and let your amp do the work.
