Please Help! Replacing Mini Switches With a 5-way

Hi Guys,

I just can't live with the mini switches on my Pro540S. I know it means losing the originality of the guitar, but its my perfect guitar apart from the switching.

The newer S guitars have the black plastic thing over the 5 Way switch. Do you think that I could cut a line through the existing holes, and stick a 5 way in there? Would the plastic bit cover the mess?

I've also read that there is a problem with the body being too thin for a 5 way?

Please help!!!

Hey bro--I've got the same guitar. The cavity is large enough for a 5-way switch. As far an an S-series plastic guard to cover the holes, I don't think it would be large enough.
So--make your own out of a piece of plastic. You could easily come up with a DIY solution.

Hadn't thought of that!

Yes I suppose a slightly bigger bit of plastic would do it! Thats good news about the room issue, as I'd heard somewhere that a Dimarzio type 5 way might not fit as the cavity is too shallow and it would hit the cover plate...

How do you get on with the switches? I keep turning myself off mid solo!!

I have no issues with the switches on mine.
I actually like them--something different than the rest.

My suggestion would be to keep your eyes open for a bit later 540S with the 5-way. You could swap necks and all the hardware and pickups and you'd have the switch you want with the feel and sound of the guitar you have and love.
