Re-wiring HSH guitar!!

Hey guys!
Been a while since i posted here.
Anyway im re wiring my hsh guitar and this is my first time doing this.
ive ordered a new set of duncans (custom custom, hot for strat and alnico pro 2) and while i wait im going to go buy the other stuff.

It gunna be a hsh, 1 volume with treble bleed mod, 1 tone pot and 5 way switch.

So im guessing i go for 2 x 500k pots, but what capacitors should i use and 5 way switch should i go for if i want it to do the ibanez style auto coil tap in pos 2 and 4??
And can someone show me an easy diagram and help me figure out what color wire goes where with the pick-ups? i can only find dimarzio diagrams but im guessing duncan has color coded their ones differently?

thanks guys,
Dave

Re: Re-wiring HSH guitar!!

thanks!!
and do you have any experience with the treble bleed mod?
from what ive searched there seems to be 2 main ones where you either put a cap and resistor in series or in parallel?

Re: Re-wiring HSH guitar!!

I tried all combination, but the best experience I had was with the third variation - cap in series with resistor. You can read more in my article http://diy-fever.com/misc/guitar-wiring-101/

for those pickups I'd use 0.022uF or even less. My preference is 0.01uF for humbucker guitars. Gives more usable tone range and doesn't get as muddy as 0.022 or 0.047uF caps when rolled down.

Re: Re-wiring HSH guitar!!

so do i switch red for black and black for red??
according to this site: http://www.1728.org/guitar.htm
i switch red to black, black to white and white to red?
also does it matter which side i have the 5 way switch? or it just as long as i have them in the right order?

red for black/black for red.

before mounting the switch, tap each coil with a small screw driver (while plugged in) to see which coil is active in each position. this will tell you how to orient the switch.

LOL...you'd hate my current setup...........068 orange drop with no treble bleed.

Re: Re-wiring HSH guitar!!

Ive just confused my self looking at other peoples wire color codes.
Shouldnt the black wires on the dimarzio correspond with the white wires on the duncans???

Re: Re-wiring HSH guitar!!

No, black is your hot out on Duncan's. Red is hot out on DiMarzio's.

Red on Duncans is your south coil tap.
White on DiMarzios is your south coil tap.

Compare the first two. This is direct from Duncan.

and all im getting is buzz... i swapped the leads on the output jack and still the same issue... any ideas? the volume and tone controls work fine, and the solo switch works too but i think its the 5 way switch? or mabe a grounding issue?
