Replacement Pickups for a Jem77FP?

Hey guys,

My 77FP pickups are kinda faded so way toying with the idea of a new pink set.... I understand they are PAF Pros? but what is the single in the middle? can it still be purchased, and if not, whats the closest thing to it?

Cheers

Personally I'd rather see an FP with it's original set, than bright new different pink than it should have [depending on what year yours is]. But the single is just a cover. You just buy a pink cover with the humbuckers. The complete matched set should always be kept together if you change them, and plenty of people would want them.

Yip... agreed... gonna leave em in... however, the neck one is a little more faded, so thinking, maybe they have been removed at some point, and switched by accident Neck--> Bridge.... is there anyway to tell which should be in the neck position?

The one with the wire bent 180*.

If they're already mismatched feel free to match.

Re: Replacement Pickups for a Jem77FP?

I say go ahead and replace them but keep the originals (and cover) around.

The pickups in my FP are new replacements, but it's my workhorse guitar so I don't care. Although most people prefer vintage pickups, I actually think that the new ones in my FP sound better than any of the several original/vintage sets I have in other Jems.

Re: Replacement Pickups for a Jem77FP?

I am going to replace the pick ups in my 77FP, it has black DiMarzio's in the neck and mid positions, and a Seymour Duncan in he Bridge

I know they are Paf Pros in the neck and bridge, but the middle was a Jem pick up made by DiMarzio and not for sale, so I thought, perhaps switch the whole lot out for a complete set of pink Evolutions? what is the general concensus on that set?

Thanks in advance

Have you played EVOs before?
Do you know what tone you are after?

No, I'm a bassist, bought this Jem with black dimarzio's in the neck and mid, SD in the bridge, SD is weak, so thought I would return it to stock, I know it should have PAF pro's in the neck and bridge and that you cannot buy the middle pick up, so the evolutions were an idea, especially as you can get them in pink

I like warm tones, kinda crunchy

If you want warm tones, stick with PAF Pros.

+1

It may have the original single coil in the middle with a black cover on it???
You can just buy a Pink cover for it if it's a Dimarzio or any kind.

Here's hoping, won't be able to tell until I take it apart, gotta get all the parts first, got the VLX91 in the other day, bloody expensive, and a NOS of Ibanez pink knobs are on the way, also bloody expensive

I also have to find a new scratchplate for it, as he original has a crack in it

Re: Replacement Pickups for a Jem77FP?

You'll have to get a new pickguard made for the guitar.
Take the old one off and trace it, holes for screws and everything.
Then scan it in to a PDF file.
JPEG files change the size of the image a little.
The pickguard would come out the wrong size even though it would match the print out the guy making the pickguard would have in front of him.

I trace the pickguard on two sheats of printer paper.
I make sure the two traces overlap in sveral places so they can put it back together correctly when they print it out.
