My RG620 came with V7/V8 and I was quite impressed with them.

Mine was a 92, I think. Maybe 93. No, 92. Yes.

my '92 550 has V1 & V2. pretty good for crunch, a bit for clean, but no good for leads or heavy rhythmics.

Did the V1 and V2 pups come in the RG 550 too? I recently picked up a 550, and I'm not sure what kind of pickups are in it. They don't have any markings on them, but they have one row or Philips head pole pieces.

Whatever they are, they sound decent. I've heard worse, but I'm still going to swap them out for a Super Distortion and something else.
