Satriani Pickup Height?

Does anyone know, generally, if Joe Satriani runs his pickups close or far from the strings?
I've tried searching his pickup heights but nothing seems to come up - and yes, I know, I should use my own ears, etc - but I'd kind of like to know if the tones I'm hearing out of him are the result of the pickups right up close on the strings, or is there some distance from the strings?
