2. What type of equipment are you going to be playing through?
Hughes & Kettner Triamp MKII, ISP decimator.
3. What are the specifics of your guitar?
Ibanez S5EX1- Ibanez saber with mahagony body and zebrawood vaneeer
A. Is it a trem or hardtail? Trem
B. maple, ebony or rosewood fretboard?
Rosewood
C. how many frets?
24 frets
D. what controls are on it?
Tone + Volume + 5 way selector H-S-H
E. What type of wood is you body made from?
Mahagony
F. Are your pickups direct mounted, ring mounted or in a pickguard?
Ring mounted

I was leaning towards the followin combinations of Pick Ups

1. Evo 2 (bridge) - undecided- Paf Pro (neck)
2. Air Norton, True Velvet and Tone Zone

Dimarzio Response:

You might try an F-spaced LiquiFire (DP227F) in the neck and an F-spaced Dominion bridge model (DP245F) in the bridge. A reverse-polarity Red Velvet (DP174S) might be good in the middle. See attached diagram.

Questions:

1. Is the dominion actually good? But I hate lamb of God's tone and music

2. What's a good pickup for the middle position if i went with an evo 2/paf pro pair? I was previously recommended to use

Area 61 or Area 67

but they seem way too trebly. I want glassy cleans not ice pick shrillness.

I really want to try out the Evo2/Paf pro combo
I also want to avoid deactivators and the CL/LF combo which I already have in another guitar.
Bareknuckle pickups are out of the question as I can't afford to drop that much on pups and its easier to find standard dimarzio's on ebay or the jemsite used section

any help

Dominion is a seriously good pickup. Not muc of a fan of LoG either, but I love that pickup. Tight, fast and articulate.

Steve Special-bridge
Air Norton- neck
Great combo for a mahogany bodied guitar and should cover all those band styles

I like the zebra pattern you have there--stick with that. Classy!

Re: Strugling with pick up choice

What are you gone use the middle position for?
Use it on its own or when in combination with splitt bridge or neck?

The ari norton s are a fantastic pickup but it is far from glassy clean.
It is a pretty warm and round humbucker in a singlecoil shell.
It will also, most likely, be a bit to high (in size) for you to be able to get a good distance between pickup and strings on that guitar.

If you main goal are to use the middle pickup for the in between sounds are the tips you got with the area pickups a really good one, they will open up the humbuckers in position 2 and 4.

If you gone use it on its own, the look at maybe something like the HS series.

Re: Strugling with pick up choice

Hello Mate

I am struggling with exact problem of choosing the right pick-up for my Ibanez S970W.
And I had the exact idea of using Air Norton, True Velvet and Tone Zone - hence it is really helpful to read your thread.

Let me know if you went ahead with DiMarzio's suggestions or what did you do in the end ?

A friend suggested LiquiFire, True Velvet and Crunch Lab combination.

Still looking around ...
Good luck with your search !
