Switches

Wondering, just thinking ...

Is there an avenue to obtain a VLX 91? How does it compare to the more accessible, easier to find Schaller Megaswitch E+?

The project at hand is upgrading/modifying a RG 370.

Re: Switches

Rich carries them, as well as the Ibanez parts department.
The VLX91 is a great switch--highly recommended!

Re: Switches

AlaskaBat, please tell my why anyone should pay the not so great price for that switch if any standard 5 way will do ?

If I want the standard 5 way 2/4 as both my 550 and universe came, why not just pay 10-12 bucks for a fender 5 way, or even any standard Ibanez switch ? It isn't like they don't last.

Re: Switches

Someone looking for a VLX91 is probably in it to get the massive possibilities available from a 4-pole 5-position switch, a 'Super-switch' ...

But standard 'split-5' wiring certainly is fully doable with a more commonly available switch (but might require a new switch tip if it's a USA type, like a CRL - the standard Ibanez ones have a smaller 'nub' on the lever for an 'import/metric' sized tip).
I would dare to say that doing standard split-5 IS easier to do on a 'normal' switch... but for me, I'm all over the 4-pole ones, so the VLX91 is excellent - fits in a more compact space than the Oak type (as packaged by people like Fender and All Parts).

It's not a "standard" switch. It's a multipole switch, and it allows for many more wiring combos than the standard 5-way.

Maybe these charts will better explain the difference between a standard switch and a multipole switch:

.

I personally thing the Megaswitch is a little more robust, but both offer the same wiring capabilities, though they may go slightly different about achieving it, I don't recall off the top of my head.

I get it but a bit overkill IMO. (But that's just my opinion..) I'd have to recommend the Fender super switch over the Ibanez one, they will melt down to quickly -fact -
