Tone Zone as a neck pickup

Just out of curiousity, I'm wondering what everyone here thinks of the Tone Zone when used in the Neck position.

I currently got one on my USA Custom and a Tone Zone 7 in my universe and love it. Just wondering if anyone else has tried it. (....Or am I the only crazy enough to try?...)

Re: Tone Zone as a neck pickup

I had a 2027 that I was told had a PAF in the neck when I bought it, but in retrospect I'm pretty sure it was a Tone Zone - thjis was ages ago, but I think the part number (DP-something) was that of the TZ and that it had the non-allen pole peices of the TZ and Air Norton style pickups, not the Blaze and Evo-style allen peices.

I'll dig up a pic and confirm, but if so, then yes, it makes a surprisingly decent neck PU- smooth, but with a little bit of acoustic-like clarity in the highs - great for alt-picking and sweeping.

Re: Tone Zone as a neck pickup

I used to have a TZ in the neck of my old Fender Strat. It sounded too fat and the output was way too high for clean tones. If you really want that kind of pickup in the neck position, you should consider the Air Zone, Norton or Breed.

Re: Tone Zone as a neck pickup

Actually I need to correct myself here. I actually have the Air Zone in the neck of my USA Custom not a normal tone zone. But I actually do like the sound of the normal tone zone in the neck. Interestingly enough, the only two pickups I haven't really tried are is the Air Norton and the Steve's Special. (I've tried pratically every other pickup in all positions [It's nice being a dimarzio dealer]).
