Question Tone Zone in parallel in neck position

Hey people,

Did anyone ever tried a tone zone in parallel in neck position?

I'm curious if it's worth it or not.

Thanks for your answers!

I'd say give it a go. It was a bit too twangy and thin for me in the bridge, but I could see how it would probably work really well in the neck. Give it a go!

Re: Tone Zone in parallel in neck position

I sure will try it, but I guess I will wait until I'll have to swap my strings. I already made some wiring mods (with caps, etc) so I manage some time to play before modding again...

I'll keep you posted

Re: Tone Zone in parallel in neck position

i put an air zone in the neck on one of my guitars and didn't like it at all. Way too flubby in the bass and it lacked definition. It was supper smooth though, would be good for a cleaner jazz setup. I dont remember if i tried it in parallel, i dont think so.

it can't hurt anything though...lol . go for it

I guess I'll wire it with DP3T switch on-on-on to have the series/split/parallel to get all the possibilities...

And that's what I did yesterday. I tested all 3 possibilities and kept only the TZ in the series configuration . I didn't like the parallel sound enough compare to the series sound.
For sure the pup is backed off almost flush with the pickguard but the sound is great.
It might be surprising but the combination with a double whammy in bridge is really good .

Re: Tone Zone in parallel in neck position

Any pickup with a lot of bass sounds bad in the neck position in my opinion.
When you lower a pickup down really far you start to hear a drop in output.
This can cause unbalanced volume levels between the neck and bridge pickup if the bridge is a high output pickup.

Re: Tone Zone in parallel in neck position

That was done on purpose as the TZ has a bigger output than the DW, so I lowered the TZ to balance the outputs.

As far as I noticed, as the guitar is quite bright, the TZ does not sound bad at all. It has a lot of bass but I like it like that as the highs are still very present thanks to the guitar brightness.
