Unhappy Tone zone sounds trebly?

Hi guys.

I have 2 basswood ibanez guitars. One with the V7/V8 config and the other with the TZ/AN config. Any one has info about the tonal qualities of these pick ups please help me!

I feel that the V7/V8 pickups have a warmer sound than the TZ/AN! Is it supposed to be this way? I very much expected the TZ to have this huger thicker sound, but was disappointed.

If I am right, what may be the problem? Should I rewire the guitar or change any components like vol pot?

Thanks all!

Ben

Sounds like you may have the Tone Zone wired in parallel. In standard series mode the TZ is anything but trebly! Make sure your green wire is ground to the volume pot, along with the bare wire, and the red wire is on the end lug of your pickup selector switch.

Also it might be too far from the strings, its very responsive to string height.

None of the green wires are connected to the volume pot! This may be the problem! The green wire of the Air Norton is to the pickup selector though... In fact the red wire of the AN came loose... so i guess i'll rewire the whole thing! Thanks a bunch!

If you're doing standard wiring: red to switch, connect black and white together and connect to switch, green and bare to bottom of volume pot.

Hey! I highly doubt it's about pickup height... It feels as if the pickup itself lacks some low end... turns out may be wired wrongly by the previous owner! Huge thanks though

Some of those 90's DiMarzio's are prone to failure of windings also.Found this out the hard way after finally replace TZ with newer version. Also, the barrel jack is apt to have some weirdness going on too..........

Oh, it was the wiring that was all wrong! I got the pickups rewired and they sound alright now! Thanks though, appreciate it!
