Unusual neck pickups: Norton and Mo' Joe
Anyone tried a Mo' Joe in the neck position?
I currently have a Tone Zone in the bridge of my RG550 along with a Norton in the neck. Despite the relatively high output of the Norton I have gotten the two pickups' volume to balance well. I am happy with the Tone Zone and mostly content with the Norton, but not fully.
The Norton is ultra-fat in the neck (a requirement for me), but I am craving a bit more articulation and a touch less bass. For me articulation doesn't mean a lot of non-musical noise upon pick attack (not a loud click type sound), but just that little "tip" to the note. Perhaps I should just get an Air Norton the old fashioned way by doing the mod on my Norton.
On paper, the Mo' Joe looks like it would be a good tweak from the Norton-
Mo Joe is 5/5.5/5 (treble/mid/bass); Norton is 5/7/6.5. I also like that the output is a bit lower in the Mo' Joe, because the Norton sounds better a bit closer to the strings but at that distance it overpowers the Tone Zone, and if anything I want my bridge pickup a touch louder than the neck.
